40th anniversary of the Icelandic Ceramic Artists´Society
Pop-up exhibition in room 4
June 5th – June 27th 2021
The history of Icelandic ceramic art is very short and only goes back to the year 1930. In 1969 Ceramic Art became a curricular subject at the Icelandic Art and Crafts School. The Icelandic Ceramic Artists’ Society was founded in March 1981 and was seen as a unifying body for all ceramic artists regardless of whether they were involved in art or craft work. Its objective was and still is to support and strengthen the respect and importance of ceramic art in Iceland in addition to establishing a professional body with connections abroad thereby enabling Icelandic ceramic artists to keep up with the latest trends from afar.
