Old and New from the Museum Collection

November 13th- December 22nd 2021

For a few weeks before Christmas, we are providing special insights into the collection at the LÁ Art Museum. Majestic landscapes from the old masters of Icelandic art, abstract art from the 1950s, and the newest approaches to human portrayal are on display. The museum was founded in 1963 in Selfoss as Iceland’s first art museum outside of the capital and remained there until 2001. Then the county bought the former cultural centre, the Art House in Hveragerði, and the LÁ Art Museum has been located here ever since.

The museum has a unique collection of around 550 artworks, from the biggest masters of Icelandic art to locals from the region. The pop-up exhibition is also a preview of our upcoming large-scale show for the 60th anniversary of the museum’s founding, which will be held in 2023.
