Guðrún Kristjánsdóttir’s exhibition Umritanir; Innsæi-Útsýni (Transcriptions; Intuition-View) at the LÁ Art Museum is an installation in which the artist seeks to approach the sensory field behind the oeuvre. The installation is based upon a number of works from 1990-2000, in dialogue with new works. Bláleiðir (Mother’s Marginalia; The Mountain Manuscript, 2024), a work of book art grounded in Guðrún’s artistic career, has sparked a re-examination of her oeuvre as a “Matriarchive.” In collaboration with the authors of the book and the director of the LÁ Art Museum, Guðrún continues here to travel her own art’s sinuous paths, and examines how an essential artistic sensibility connects the works and comes through via diverse media, trends, and a tangle of circumstances and dreams. An interplay of views and intuitions resounds through her oeuvre, and is manifested in striving to permit the spirit to transform the material, and vice versa. The way the artist seeks to evoke the intangible “golden section” in her relationship to the present and the anachronistic, on the timeline of nature and her timelessness, is explored.
